Ferrari World Abu Dhabi fly-through - Click above to watch video after the jump

Abu Dhabi’s Ferrari World will be the world’s largest indoor theme park with the world’s fastest rollercoaster when it opens later this year. That will be just one of the 20 rides and attractions that also include a G-force experience, racing simulators and a flume ride through a 12-cylinder Ferrari 599 engine. It’s a long way from Italy but it should be a great place to find out about the Scuderia. Follow the jump for a video fly-by of the coming park.

Think the 599 GTO is the fastest Ferrari ever created? Well, it may be the fastest roadcar, but the next project to wear the Prancing Horse promises even more power and that much more blinding acceleration. So much so, in fact, that occupants are provided with protective eyewear to shield against the wind rapidly moving over their faces.

We’re talking about Formula Rossa, the headline attraction at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi. Set to open later this year, the theme park on the Persian Gulf is set to incorporate 20 main attractions, including two roller coasters. One of them is the F430 Spider-based coaster previewed a couple of months ago, and now Ferrari has announced details on the second.

Formula Rossa is designed to mimic the aesthetics and experience of the Scuderia’s F1 race cars. It’ll be driven by a 20,800-horsepower winch system, accelerating from 0-100 km/h (62 mph) in two seconds flat and rocket to its peak height of 52 meters (170 feet) in less than five seconds. The four-car trains will take 16 passengers for the ride along more than two kilometers (1.3 miles) of track, hitting 1.7 Gs of acceleration along the way. Thrilled yet? Follow the link to check out the video and the jump for the details in the press release.

If you thought it took a long time to get to the top of the list and take delivery on a newly-assembled Ferrari supercar, that’s nothing compared to the time that has gone in to building the brand’s first theme park. Ferrari World Abu Dhabi has been under construction for two years now, and is finally set to open its doors to the public sometime later this year. And when it does, it will be not only the first theme park in the region, but the first of its kind in the world.

The major attractions at Ferrari World Abu Dhabi will comprise some 20 rides, including two roller-coasters: one based on an F1 car, running at speeds at upwards of 200 kilometers per hour (125 mph) and shooting straight up through the massive scarlet roof structure 62 meters into the air.

The second is what you see pictured here, the GT Racing Coaster. That attraction will run two four-seat cars (styled after the F430 Spider) on parallel tracks in a race to the finish line. This is the first image we’ve received of the coaster car, and we can’t help but wonder why they don’t go with a 458 Italia-inspired car at this point. Follow the jump for a video on the park’s construction.

Television coverage of Formula One grands prix typically end with an aerial shot of the podium and the fans beneath it, a panorama usually dominated by the tifosi passing a giant Scuderia Ferrari flag over the crowd. That view may have been largely absent with the void of Ferrari victories this season, but if you were watching the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix this past weekend you might have noticed something even bigger: the site of Ferrari World, the new theme park being constructed adjacent to the marina circuit on Yas Island.

The park can easily be picked out from the air, housed in a giant red roof that sports a 200-foot-tall Ferrari logo, the largest ever made. With doors set to open in the new year, details are now being released while work is underway on the attractions that will be included in the 200,000 square meters (over two million square feet) of indoor space dedicated to the park.

Among the 20+ rides that will be housed in the largest indoor park on earth will be the world’s fastest roller coaster, a g-force drop tower breaching the 150-foot-high red steel roof to extend over 200 feet into the sky, racing simulators, karting and a flume ride through a giant Ferrari engine.
